S.M.I.L.E’s Young Business Leaders Network

Preparing our Young Leaders for the alarming youth unemployment reality. Thank you Citi Bank & Growing Businesses Foundation for empowering S.M.I.L.E teenagers & youth with entrepreneurship skills through the Citi – Business Development Incubation Program. Special thanks also to our partner, Mr Idy Enang, CEO Corporate Shepherds Ltd, for his very insightful session on Business Ethics & Branding.

S.M.I.L.E’s President at the United Nations Orientation Programme in New York

S.M.I.L.E President, Mrs Bimpe Bamgbose-Martins was at the United Nations Headquarters in New York this week for the Orientation Program for newly appointed NGO representatives to the United Nations through Department of Public Information.

We thank UN DPI NGO Relations Unit for a spectacular job at helping us settle into our new role as Associate of the UN Department of Public Information and an organization in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.

At S.M.I.L.E, we are committed to investing in the youth, raising a new generation of impact driven leaders.

12 August United Nations International Youth Day

The theme for the 2017 event : Youth Building Peace (#Youth4Peace), proved really timely, particularly in view of the current situation in Nigeria. The event was a resounding success with approximately 800 young participants from 9 states of the Federation plus the Federal Capital Territory in attendance. Youth with disabilities were also not left out and for the first time we had a visually impaired youth as a panelist as well as visually and hearing impaired youth, as participants.

Highlights include discussions on the role of youth in peace building and prevention of conflict, addressing youth unemployment by promoting youth entrepreneurship and bridging the resource and funding gap,

World Youth Skills Day 2017

Today July 15 is the World Youth Skills Day, a day set aside by the United Nations to focus on youth empowerment, recognizing that fostering the acquisition of skills by youth would enhance their ability to make informed choices with regard to life and work and empower them to gain access to changing labor markets. Skills and jobs for youth feature prominently in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and SDG target 4.4 calls for a substantial increase in the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills.

At S.M.I.L.E, we celebrate all the youth entrepreneurs within our network today and encourage more young people to acquire the relevant skills and education to reduce the alarming youth unemployment rate.

Class of 2012 – 2017 Change Champions Reunion

It is rare to see top executives & leaders of industries create ample time to spend with the younger generation, giving them an opportunity to ask throbbing questions & glean from their wealth of knowledge & experience, that’s why we celebrate one of such rare people, Mr Hakeem Ogunniran, MD/CEO UACN Property Development Company PLC for making out time for the Change Champions on S.M.I.L.E’s Young Leaders Mentoring Program.

The benefits of pursuing one’s passion cannot be overemphasized.

S.M.I.L.E’s Young Leaders Mentoring Program Module 3

It was mixed feelings at the final module of S.M.I.L.E’s Young Leaders Mentoring Program. While the Change Champions did not want the training to end, we on the other hand were so eager to release them into their schools and the society to begin to explore their leadership potentials and hone their new skills as role models and peer mentors.

As we actively follow them up and provide the required support, we are confident that the future holds tremendous promise for these young minds.

We specially appreciate the unreserved support of the entire team,

S.M.I.L.E’s Educational Outreach Program

Yesterday we had the privilege to empower 160 youth in a secondary school with skills needed for self discovery and living life intentionally. We believe that helping the Youth understand the essence of life, their leadership potentials and how best to harness their gifts to become problem solvers is key for social development.

Special thanks to our partner – Men of Purpose, journey to Self Discovery, USA for sponsoring some of the Educational Outreach programs we have lined up for this year.

Also it’s on days like this that our profound gratitude always goes to one of our partners who bought a van for us a few years ago.
