The Need
The consistent rise in the number of young people who are dire need of mentors to handhold them, listen to their ideas dreams, and point them in the right direction has become front burner for us as a Youth mentoring organization.
It’s on this premise that we established the S.M.I.L.E Youth Lovers Tribe, a global network of adults 40 years and above, who are youth development advocates and enthusiasts.
What We Do
We connect young people to members of the Youth Lovers Tribe (YLT), consisting of top executives, professionals and entrepreneurs. These youth enthusiasts are committed to serving as role models, mentors and advocates for these young people within a stipulated number of months using the mentoring guidelines/curriculum of S.M.I.L.E.
In addition,members of the Youth Lovers Tribe can also identify and work with young people within their personal sphere of influence.
The Impact
Advocacy
Members of the Youth Lovers Tribe have continued to amplify/address youth related issues both locally and globally as well as proffer solutions through trainings, enlightenment programs, and support groups to address these pertinent issues. For instance, as part of our advocacy to leave no one behind our programs are inclusive to ensure young people with disabilities can participate. Our advocacy drive, is done through various means such as online/offline awareness.
Mentoring
Members of the tribe give their time and expertise to support the goals of young people in various areas such as academics, business and career. The mentees can either be assigned to the mentors from S.M.I.L.E's youth community or a mentor can decide to select mentees from his/her own community. In both cases, S.M.I.L.E's mentoring framework serves as a guide. Members in this category commit to mentoring young people for a specified number of hours on a monthly basis either physically or virtually
Sponsorship
Members of the Youth Lovers Tribe help us achieve our goals through their financial support. Members also get the opportunity to sponsor specific causes and S.M.I.L.E programs they are passionate about. They also have the opportunity to adopt young people within our youth network. N.B Members can choose to belong to ALL of the membership categories.
It has taught our young leaders how to use the social media to improve their visibility, promote their causes and personal brand.
